A Peek at our Day

What a busy time in kindergarten.  We are finishing up with assessments for report cards and getting ready for our portfolio open house.  If our blog posts slow down a bit, don't be alarmed.  We are getting so much done that we have NO TIME to blog!  Here was our day:

Sketching and painting freely are important ways that we express our creativity.  We do this often in kindergarten.  We also like to do DIRECTED DRAWING.  It involves following steps to sketch an object.  It helps us to follow directions, practice our visual discrimination (what is different from one step to the next?), strengthen our fine motor control, and practice our lines and shapes.

We drew and painted our self-portraits for this month.

We are starting to learn about paper.  Here we are looking at some different types of paper.  Notice kids feeling it, smelling it, and listening to it (corrugated board DOES make noise when you scratch it!).  We learned that most paper comes from trees and we look forward to making our own paper in kindergarten someday soon.
